FAQ's

Q. Why does it take a whole week for customers to get their pottery back?
A. Pottery/ceramics are made of very porous material, which means it takes a long time to dry. If we do not allow enough time for drying, it can cause color and glaze to crawl or completely pull up from the bisque/pottery. Therefore, after you paint, your piece must dry for 24 hours. Then we have to glaze it and let that dry for another 24 hours. Finally, we load your piece into the kiln with the entire firing process taking 24 hours because the kiln must raise in temperature to 1829 degrees and fall back down to 100 degrees. Of course you want the piece "finished off" when it's removed from the kiln by having the stilt marks removed/smoothed out. We then wrap it and bag it and then call you! That can take up to 7 days....surprising, isn't it?

Q. May finished pieces be used in an oven or microwave?
A. Earthenware bodies are porous and can absorb water through stilt marks or unglazed areas. If this moisture is heated in an oven or microwave it can expand and form steam which can break or even explode a piece. While this is very rare, to be conservative, we do not recommend using pieces in the oven. In addition, use in an oven or microwave and repeated heating and cooling can cause the glaze to craze or form hairline cracks. These cracks can shorten the life of the piece and may render it no longer foodsafe since the cracks might absorb and hold bacteria.

Some people have no problems at all when putting their piece(s) in the microwave or oven...the choice is up to you.
