About Us

Earth, Glaze & Fire is owned by Jo Brabson, an Air Force Veteran whose love affair with ceramics began at an Air Force Base Arts & Crafts Center.  There, she learned how to pour her own molds and make handmade gifts from the heart.

“I was able to put time, love and a little bit of myself into each paint-your-own pottery gift.  This made them unique and more memorable than what you could buy at a store,” Jo says.

Jo originally considered opening her own paint-your-own pottery studio in 1984 when Jo and her husband, Adrian, were stationed in Austin, Texas and discovered a local studio for sale.   However, her entrepreneurial plans got derailed when Jo and Adrian received orders to move to Turkey.

Nevertheless, the dream of owning her own studio persisted through the years.  So, when the previous owner of Earth, Glaze & Fire put the studio up for sale in 2006, Jo was ready to act and purchased the shop.

Jo wants Earth, Glaze & Fire to be a fun, educational family-friendly place that appeals to the residents of Warrenton and surrounding areas.

“We offer Arts Education curriculum for children of all ages, including Summer Arts Camps for Kids and special programs for Home Schoolers, Girl and Boy Scouts.  Earth, Glaze & Fire is  a fun and creative place for people of all ages who just want to come and paint!” Jo says.

“I love seeing the faces of the children as they create that ‘special’ gift and how their eyes light up when they see the finished piece ready to wrapped and given away.  They want to learn more, do more and it inspires me and my staff to develop classes, displays and techniques that give them the opportunity to do just that.  I also still love to do ceramics…I love seeing the final product and I give everything away.”

Jo is a world traveler who has lived in Texas, Turkey, Japan and Colorado.  In addition to managing Earth, Glaze & Fire, Jo holds a full-time position as Chief Administrative Officer with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Policy & Planning  Previously, she worked in the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs.
